I am a scholar on the future of work and education; a global speaker; editor of the Knowmad Society project; a co-director of the Invisible Learning project; and I am the founder of Education Futures LLC.

I am concerned about human capital development as society approaches an increasingly complex and ambiguous future. Technological change drives social change, and the impact of these changes is accelerating exponentially. Our schools, universities, and other knowledge-based institutions must leap ahead of this curve for all people to compete in highly globalized, knowledge- and innovation-based societies.

My research and action scholarship agendas are focused on exploring the convergence of globalization, innovation society, and accelerating change in human knowledge development; and, building positive futures for knowledge creation systems in an era of exponential uncertainty. My work focuses on exploring the emerging “Knowmad Paradigm,” and the new approaches to leadership and human capital development required. My work is global, and I am most actively engaged in research and collaborations in the United States, Latin America, and Europe. In addition to editing Knowmad Society (2013, Education Futures), I am the co-author of the book Invisible Learning (2011, University of Barcelona Press).

Highlights

Creator of the knowmads concept, which takes a futures-oriented approach to envisioning human potential development in the next 10 years, and the implications for education today. This work has inspired the creation of three Knowmads schools around the world, and is also the central theme for a 20 episode television series on youth entrepreneurship, produced by the Municipality of Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Co-creator of invisible learning metatheory for reframing human capital development with the actualization of human potential. With major works published in Spanish, and 100,000+ copies of Aprendizaje Invisible (2011) distributed to date, the invisible learning protoparadigm is influencing public policy development and the formation of new teacher profiles in various Latin American nations, including Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay.

Thought leader and facilitator of the Minnevate! dialogue process to build an action agenda for educational leadership in Minnesota. Sponsored by the Minnesota Association of School Administrators, the project is a grassroots opportunity for communities to come together and identify pathways for forming positive futures for children, supported by Minnesota’s public schools.

Global speaker and trainer with 100+ invited engagements across four continents, including three TEDx talks. External training designer for the Inter-American Development Bank.
